OrcaLab, for over five decades, has been diligently capturing the distinctive and melodious calls of the Northern Resident Orca community who reside in the waters of British Columbia, Canada. This community consists of over 300 orcas, each family boasting a unique set of vocalizations.
This application offers an insightful journey into the classification of various orca families, referred to as 'matrilines,' solely based on their vocalizations. Each matriline presents a collection of approximately 10-15 specific calls that constitute its acoustic identity. With dedicated practice, you will soon be adept at distinguishing between different orcas just by their sounds!
